Reds 8, Cardinals 7: At Cincinnati, David Ross hit a two-run homer in the ninth for a Cincinnati win over St. Louis that tightened the Central race to 2 1/2 games.

Mets 4, Padres 3: At New York, Mike Piazza hit two home runs off former Mets teammate Pedro Martinez, but New York edged San Diego.

Astros 14, Pirates 1: At Houston, ace pitcher Roy Oswalt hit one of Houston’s six homers, and Aubrey Huff connected twice and drove in a career-high six runs in a rout of Pittsburgh.

Brewers 6, Cubs 3: At Milwaukee, Dave Bush took a no-hit bid into the sixth, helping Milwaukee beat Chicago and stop a three-game losing streak.
