Bengals defeat Redskins

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Bengals got a chance to gauge what their offense will look like if Carson Palmer isn’t ready to start the season. And the reviews were mixed in a 19-3 preseason victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

Newcomer Anthony Wright overcame a sluggish start to complete 9 of 16 passes in the first half for 101 yards, though more than half of the yards came on a 52-yards flea-flicker to T.J. Houshmandzadeh. That play set up Wright’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Henry.

Doug Johnson went 11 of 14 for 128 yards with a touchdown and three sacks for the Bengals in the second half, when both teams played their backups.

Redskins quarterback Mark Brunell played only two series, going 4 of 9 for 66 yards and an interception.
