‘Lost’ crew still feels like winners
The cast of ABC’s “Lost” appears to be taking their Emmy snub in stride.
After winning last year’s best-drama Emmy, neither the show nor any of its lead actors are nominated this time around.
“My first reaction to it was, ‘Good.’ I don’t want us to become that show that becomes so righteous, so above everything else, that we’re untouchable,” cast member Evangeline Lilly said Tuesday at a party to promote the show’s new second-season DVD.
“When we started, our big question was, ‘Will anybody even watch this show?’ And then when people started watching, we were thrilled. And then when we got recognized critically, we were beside ourselves. So, when we didn’t get nominated, all we had to do was remember where we came from.”
The series’ third season starts Oct. 4, with one big change: no midseason reruns.
Six new episodes will air back-to-back this fall, with the remaining 17 scheduled without interruption from midwinter to late spring.
Just a little Apple polishing
Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow, on hiatus from acting for more than two years while she started her family, is ready to focus on her career again.
“I had no spark for work, but I feel the feeling back. And I’m excited about the prospect,” says Paltrow, 33, who next stars in “Running With Scissors,” opening Oct. 11.
Paltrow, who received a best actress Oscar for 1998’s “Shakespeare in Love,” has a 2-year-old daughter, Apple, and 4-month-old son, Moses, with husband Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay.
“I do not know how single mothers have more than one child with no help,” she says. “It requires so much of my life, and I don’t have to change sheets and clean toilets, you know.”
Ricci can’t be too thin
She’s co-starred with Charlize Theron in “Monster” and Johnny Depp in “Sleepy Hollow,” but Christina Ricci says she still has to audition for movie roles.
“I don’t really have as much control over my career as others would like to pretend that I do,” says Ricci, 26, whose credits also include such independent films as “Buffalo 66” and “The Opposite of Sex.”
“I know that had I been thinner at the time when my indie movies were hitting, I could’ve been in a much better position in my career, but I kind of like where I am.”
Bearing false witness?
Troy Lee Gentry, of the country singing duo Montgomery Gentry, has been accused of killing a tame black bear and then illegally tagging as being killed in the wild.
Federal authorities allege Gentry bought the bear, named Cubby, from a hunting guide for $4,650 in October 2004, then killed it with a bow and arrow in an enclosed pen.
They say the killing was taped, then doctored to make it appear that he was actually hunting.
Both Gentry and the guide face a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a $20,000 fine.
