Wrestling: Stags win Deer Park Invitational
Host Deer Park scored 247.5 points and took first place at Saturday’s Deer Park Invitational. The Stags had four first-place finishers.
DP’s Blake Adams pinned Selah’s Shane Merritt in 3 minutes, 35 seconds to win the 103-pound weight class.
Levi Zadorozny (112), Brandon Leliefeld (135) and Nick Larson (215) were also champions for the Stags.
Other champions included Mead’s Philip Smith (119), Selah’s Carlos Torres (125), Lewis and Clark’s Trevor Powell (130), Gonzaga Prep’s Gabe Abl (140), LC’s Anthony Varnell (145), Mt. Spokane’s Noah Hatton (152), Riverside’s Ryan Desroches (160), Mead’s Jordan Greco (171), Riverside’s Tyler Johnson (189) and Mt. Spokane’s Joe Lindsey (275).
Riverside took second while Mead finished third.
DP finished in ninth place at last year’s invitational and 15th two years ago.

Newport produced three first-place finishers in earning the Grizzlies a third-place finish.
Colfax finished fourth followed by Oroville to round out the top five teams.
Daniel Swain (119), Eric Moody (130) and Brad Thew (275) all won their weight classes for Newport.
