Group seeking medical care reform to meet

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

A fledgling group of doctors and citizens interested in revamping Idaho’s health system to provide essential medical care for all will meet Wednesday to consider a model offered by former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber.

“Everybody agrees it’s necessary. It’s doing it that’s hard,” said Dr. Rolf Nesse of Coeur d’Alene. Nesse and his wife, Anne, are organizers of the first of three public sessions aimed at producing petitions calling on the Idaho Legislature to reform state health care.

A 40-minute video describing Kitzhaber’s “Archimedes Movement” will be shown at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene. It’s an effort to reconsider the structures on which modern health care is based, including Medicare, Medicaid and employer-provided health insurance.

Wednesday’s meeting will include a question-and-answer session with four area doctors. It’s the first of three planned public sessions, Nesse said.
