Devils win on Elias’ overtime goal

Patrik Elias scored a power-play goal with 7.3 seconds remaining in overtime to give the New Jersey Devils a 2-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night in East Rutherford, N.J.

Zach Parise scored with 5:48 left in regulation for the Devils, 10-1-1 at home.

Stars 3, Coyotes 0: At Dallas, Marty Turco made 25 saves for his 27th NHL shutout, and Sergei Zubov scored an early power-play goal to lead the Stars to a victory over Phoenix.

Mike Ribeiro and Philippe Boucher added goals for the Stars, who’ve won three straight.

Capitals 6, Senators 2: At Washington, Capitals captain Chris Clark scored twice off assists from Alex Ovechkin and Washington beat Ottawa for its fourth consecutive victory.

Ducks 4, Predators 0: At Anaheim, Calif., Teemu Selanne had two goals and an assist, Chris Kunitz had a goal and three assists, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere notched his 25th career shutout as the Ducks beat Nashville.

Oilers 3, Hurricanes 1: At Edmonton, Alberta, Brad Winchester, Jason Smith and Fernando Pisani scored goals to carry the Oilers past Carolina.

Nieuwendyk retires

Florida Panthers forward Joe Nieuwendyk, 40, retired because of chronic back problems, ending a 20-year career.

The center, who won three Stanley Cup titles, finished his career with 564 goals and 562 assists in 1,257 games.
