Allen will miss at least next seven games
All-Star guard Ray Allen will miss at least the next seven games for the Seattle SuperSonics while he recovers from a bone bruise in his right ankle, the team said Thursday evening.
Allen has a contusion of the talus bone in his right ankle. The injury caused Allen to miss the Sonics’ win Tuesday night over Atlanta, and an MRI Wednesday morning revealed the injury.
The six-time All-Star selection will be reevaluated in about two weeks. Allen is Seattle’s leading scorer at 25.3 points per game, 12th in the league.
Allen didn’t sound overly concerned about the injury before Tuesday’s game, referring to it more as discomfort than pain in his foot and ankle.
“I’ve always said if you’re injured, you don’t play. You sit down,” said Allen, who missed four games last season.
•Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Simmons is expected to miss the rest of the regular season because his ailing right ankle and foot will require two surgeries.
On the court
Suns 161, Nets 157 (2OT): At East Rutherford, N.J., Steve Nash scored nine of his career-high 42 points in the second overtime and Boris Diaw hit a go-ahead shot in the lane with 14 seconds left to lead Phoenix to its eighth straight victory, a win over New Jersey.
The wild shootout in the highest-scoring game in the NBA this season also saw Nets point guard Jason Kidd tie Wilt Chamberlain for third place with his 78th career triple-double. Kidd finished with 38 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists, but the point guard dribbled the ball off his foot with 10 seconds left, costing the Nets a chance to tie.
Pistons 92, Mavericks 82: At Dallas, Rasheed Wallace scored most of his 19 points on five 3-pointers, including back-to-back shots that he emphatically celebrated during a third-quarter spree, leading Detroit to a win over Dallas.
Tayshaun Prince led Detroit with 20 points. Richard Hamilton added 15.
Heat 93, Kings 91 (OT): At Sacramento, Calif., Dwyane Wade had 32 points, including seven in overtime, and added 11 rebounds and nine assists to lead Miami past Sacramento.
After missing a potential game-winning shot at the buzzer in regulation, Wade quickly got to work in the OT. He scored the first seven points for the Heat, including a long corner jumper that put Miami ahead 92-85 with 2:26 left.
