Randolph suspended for gesture

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

Portland Trail Blazers forward Zach Randolph was suspended for a game for an obscene gesture he made to the crowd in Friday night’s loss at Indiana, the team announced Saturday.

Randolph will miss today’s game in Toronto. He also will be fined, the team said.

Randolph had 29 points and four rebounds before fouling out with 15 seconds left.

“I was frustrated there at the end of the game. That shouldn’t happen, and I apologize for that and it won’t happen again,” he said afterward.

The Blazers lost 108-95.

Randolph is averaging 25.9 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.

Hughes returns for Cavs

Cavaliers guard Larry Hughes was activated for the game against the Indiana Pacers in Cleveland after missing 10 games with a sprained right ankle.

The Cavaliers went 5-5 without Hughes, who got hurt on Nov. 15 against Portland while fighting for a loose ball on the floor. He missed 46 games last season with an injured middle finger, which required two operations.

Cleveland’s best perimeter defender, Hughes averaged 13.8 points and 3.5 rebounds in his first eight games this season.

•Indiana forward Jermaine O’Neal missed his second straight game with a sore left hamstring when the Pacers played the Cleveland Cavaliers.

O’Neal, who leads the club with 17.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, also missed Indiana’s 108-95 win over Portland on Friday night.
