All-state teams named
State champions Mead, Colfax and Sprague-Harrington combined for five players named to high school volleyball Washington all-state first teams Friday.
Kady Try of champion Mead was named 4A Most Valuable Player. Mead’s Judy Kight received Coach of the Year honors and Mead’s Karyn Mockel made the first team.
Lauren Mellor of champion Colfax was named MVP for 1A. Her coach, Sue Doering, was the Coach of the Year. Kelli Tikker of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) was also named to the first team.
Natalie Deking received the 1B MVP. She plays for champion Sprague-Harrington. Tammy Cronrath of S-H was named Coach of the Year. S-H’s Roni Jo Mielke joined Deking on the first team. Curlew’s Kady Kirkendall also made the first team.
The all-state soccer list was also announced.
Pullman’s Katie Spangenberg and Cheney’s Alyshia Madison were the only area players on a first team, selected in 2A.
