Ducks take flight, beat Cougars
Eleanor Haring scored a game-high 20 points Saturday to lead Oregon to a 66-55 victory over Washington State in Pacific-10 Conference play in Eugene, Ore.
Haring scored 10 consecutive points for Oregon (8-3, 1-1) early in the first half, but she played only 11 minutes in the opening half because of foul trouble. Oregon’s Tamika Nurse scored a season-high 13 points and Carolyn Ganes added 12 for the Ducks.
Marisa Stotler led the Cougars (5-7, 1-1) with 14 points, followed by Amanda DuRocher with 12.
The game featured eight ties and three lead changes.
Washington 71, Oregon State 67 (OT): At Corvallis, Ore., Cameo Hicks scored eight of her 19 points in overtime to lead the Huskies (9-4, 2-0 Pac-10) to a victory over the Beavers (4-5, 0-2).
Hicks also had 11 rebounds, and teammate Andrea Plouffe added 20 points for Washington.
Casey Nash had a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds for Oregon State.
Prep basketball
Girls: Roni Jo Mielke tossed in a game-high 19 points and Natalie Deking scored 17 to lead Sprague-Harrington to a 59-26 non-league victory over host Davenport. Mielke added nine rebounds and seven assists for the Falcons (8-0). The Gorillas (4-2) were held to 12 points in the second half.
Boys: Kyle Nelson tallied 19 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists to lead Davenport to a 57-46 non-league victory over visiting Sprague-Harrington. Jarod Gunning added 18 points for the Gorillas (2-4). Mike Stout paced the Falcons (3-5) with 18 points, while Bryceson Charlton scored 17.
