Dirty dozen
The 12 teams with the dirtiest seasons:
1. Detroit (2-13): Continued misery that won’t get better even with Brady Quinn or another young QB. Matt Millen is 23-72 as president.
2. Oakland (2-13): Twelve offensive TDs all season, and many of those were set up by the defense.
3. Cincinnati (8-7): Provided a lot of work for police forces in Ohio and elsewhere.
4. New York Giants (8-8): Yeah, they might make the playoffs. But 6-2 to 7-8 isn’t just injuries. Maybe if Tiki Barber had gone away 10 weeks ago and taken some others with him, they’d be in a better spot.
5. Arizona (5-10): Yeah, the Cardinals have played better recently. But the finish is always about 5-11.
6. Washington (5-11): Inside the Beltway, they were thinking Super Bowl before the season.
7. Carolina (7-8): Injuries, an off year by Jake Delhomme. But how to explain a 37-3 home loss to Pittsburgh at a crucial time?
8. Atlanta (7-8): Would the Falcons like to take back the trade that brought them Vick and gave San Diego the pick that produced L.T.? Jim Mora could get his wish and coach at his alma mater (U of Washington) – as an assistant.
9. Seattle (8-7): The Seahawks, the first Super Bowl loser since 2000 to make the playoffs, still had an awful year.
10. Indianapolis (11-4): It would be 4-11 with any other QB. How can anyone give up 175 yards a game on the ground?
11. Miami (6-9): Whatever credibility Saban had was lost when he went for the tie at the Jets 7-yard-line Monday night.
12. Cleveland (4-11): Nothing has gone right since the Browns came back in 1999.
