‘Monologues’ performances planned

The V-Day season has begun – meaning the annual round of performances of “The Vagina Monologues,” the stage play by Eve Ensler about women’s self-expression.

Every year, Ensler’s V-Day organization allows groups around the country to perform the show to raise money for the prevention of violence against women.

Here’s a roundup of the “Vagina Monologues” shows planned in the Inland Northwest:

Coeur d’Alene – Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m., North Idaho College’s Schuler Auditorium. To benefit the Soroptomist Children’s center, an adjunct to the Women’s Center. Special feature: A monologue delivered by former Coeur d’Alene police chief Tom Cronin. Tickets are $25, with a special price of $10 for single, working mothers and students, available by calling TicketQuik at (800) 423-2849 or (208) 769-7780.

Moscow – Next Thursday and Feb., 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. at the University of Idaho’s Hartung Theatre. Proceeds go to the Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse. Tickets are $7 ($5 for students), available at the UI Women’s Center, in front of the Commons from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday through Feb. 10, or at the door.

Spokane – Feb. 11, 7 p.m., at The Met, 901 W. Sprague Ave. Presented by Stop the Clock, a local organization dedicated to preventing violence against women. Tickets range from $12 to $20, through TicketsWest outlets (325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).

Spokane – Feb. 14, 11:30 a.m., Spokane Falls Community College SUB Lounges A and B, Building 17, 3410 Fort George Wright Drive. Sponsored by the SFCC Associated Women Students Program. Free admission.

Pullman – Feb. 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Jones Theatre in Daggy Hall on the Washington State University campus. Proceeds go to Alternatives to Violence of the Palouse, the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the V-Day Spotlight 2006: Comfort Women. Tickets are $8 ($6 for students), available beginning Feb. 13 at the Women’s Resource Center in Wilson Hall, the Daily Grind Coffee House at 230 E. Main St., Pullman, Brused Books at 235 E. Main St., Pullman, and the west entrance of the Compton Union Building from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cheney – March 3 at 7 p.m. and March 5 at 2 and 7 p.m., Showalter Auditorium on the Eastern Washington University campus. Tickets are $7 ($5 for EWU students), available in the Student Alliance For Equity office, Pence Union Building 219, by e-mail at vdayewu@gmail.com, or at the door.
