Hawaii rallies to beat Idaho
Hawaii rallied behind three players in double digits to overcome a five-point first-half deficit and defeat Idaho 66-60 in a Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup in Moscow, Idaho, on Thursday.
Janevia Taylor paced the Rainbow Wahine (13-8, 2-5) with 17 points. Hawaii held a 21-8 advantage in free throws made. Emily Faurholt topped the Vandals (7-12, 3-5) with 15 points.
Michelle Cozad had 11 points during a critical 19-6 run in the second half as Santa Clara rolled to a 74-52 West Coast Conference win in Santa Clara, Calif.
Ashley Anderson, WCC Player of the Month for January, grabbed 11 rebounds for Gonzaga.
Stephanie Cherry had 20 points to lead five players in double figures, and Sacramento State edged Eastern Washington 69-61 in a Big Sky Conference game in Sacramento, Calif.
Men’s basketball
Gonzaga forward Adam Morrison was selected West Coast Conference Player of the Month for January. Morrison led the Bulldogs to a 7-0 conference mark.
College baseball
Texas Pan American defeated Gonzaga 8-3 in the season opener for both teams at the Texas Pan American Tournament in Edinburg, Texas.
Boxing
The Howard Street Boxing Club, formerly the Spokane Eagles Boxing Club, hosts the Inland Northwest Senior Boxing Championships Saturday at the East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone.
The amateur card will feature a half-dozen bouts, beginning at 1 p.m.
