Sedins help Canucks move into first place

Henrik Sedin scored a goal and had an assist and Daniel Sedin added three assists as the brothers led the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-1 win over the Flames on Friday night in Calgary, Alberta.

Anson Carter also had a goal and an assist and Ryan Kesler scored for Vancouver, which moved into first place in the Northwest Division.

It was the third straight victory for the Canucks.

Jarome Iginla scored for the Flames, who lost their third straight game.

Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 1: At Washington, Alexander Ovechkin picked up an assist in his return, and Chris Clark and Ben Clymer each had a goal and an assist to defeat Toronto.

Toronto has dropped two in a row and is 1-8-2 in its last 11 games.

Devils 3, Hurricanes 0: At East Rutherford, N.J., Martin Brodeur became the third goaltender in NHL history to reach 100 shutouts in New Jersey’s victory.

Patrik Elias, Zach Parise and Brian Gionta scored for the Devils to back Brodeur, who joined Terry Sawchuk (115) and George Hainsworth (102) as the only goalies to register 100 or more shutouts in the regular season and playoffs combined.

Panthers 5, Thrashers 2: At Sunrise, Fla., Chris Gratton scored twice, and Jon Sim had the go-ahead goal in the third period as Florida handed Atlanta its seventh straight loss.

Joe Nieuwendyk and Nathan Horton also scored for Florida, and Roberto Luongo made 37 saves.

Off the ice

Phoenix leading scorer Ladislav Nagy underwent knee surgery and team officials said he would miss the rest of the regular season. Nagy had arthroscopic surgery to repair a partial tear of the lateral meniscus in his right knee and to fix a bone defect. … Milan Hejduk of Colorado could play as early as today after injuring his neck two days earlier, but Ossi Vaanenen will have surgery for a broken ankle, the team said. … The Devils retired the number of longtime defenseman Scott Stevens.
