Schedule change: off SJSU, on Wisconsin?

PULLMAN – Washington State University is nearing an agreement to play a non-conference football game at Wisconsin in 2007, an athletic department source said.

The Cougars are currently scheduled to play Idaho, San Diego State and at San Jose State that season before beginning the Pac-10 schedule. But San Jose State is looking to get out of the agreement with WSU, and the Cougars have agreed if they are able to fill the spot.

In addition to the road game in 2007, WSU is also working on a home-and-home with Wisconsin that would take place next decade, essentially making for a three-game deal with two contests in Madison, Wis., and one in Washington.

If the deal with the Badgers is completed, the Cougars would be committed to one road game at least 1,350 miles from Pullman in each of the next three seasons. WSU plays at Auburn in the season opener in September and has a road game at Baylor in 2008.

WSU also completed a home-and-home agreement this winter with another Big Ten team, Minnesota, for the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

The Cougars and Badgers have played once before, with Wisconsin winning 35-26 in 1976 in Madison.
