District 8 3A Tournament

Matt Brunell scored 12 points, including 8-of-8 free-throw shooting, and pulled down eight rebounds as Cheney cruised to a 60-43 victory over visiting East Valley in a loser-out game Friday night. Brandon Hardie scored 13 points to lead the Blackhawks (7-14), and Jess Donnerberg added 10 points and seven rebounds. Josh Peck had 12 points, 12 rebounds and four steals for the Knights (4-17) before fouling out. … Cheney will face North Central (18-4) today at Mt. Spokane for the Greater Spokane League’s second and third seeds to next week’s Eastern Regional. The winner will face the winner of today’s game between West Valley (Yakima) and Hanford on Tuesday in a winner-to-state game, while the loser faces the loser of today’s Ellensburg/Selah matchup in a loser-out affair Tuesday.

District 7 1A Tournament

Adam Bruya scored 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting and pulled down six rebounds as top-seeded Colfax routed No. 4 Newport (2-18) 70-30 at Mead High School. Brian Danaher added 10 points for the Bulldogs (17-4), who led 40-16 at halftime. … Brandon Holibaugh had 17 points and nine rebounds as No. 2 Kettle Falls defeated No. 3 Freeman 46-37. Casey McKern added 12 points for the Bulldogs (17-4), who shot 60 percent from the field. Marc Soelberg and Luke Heinen led the Scotties (11-10) with 11 apiece. … In today’s action at Mead, Freeman and Newport will play a loser-out game at 3 p.m., followed by the district championship game between Colfax and Kettle Falls at 6.

Class B

Bi-County League Tournament: Karl Richardson scored 17 points and Joe Grewe added 14 as Northwest Christian defeated Lind-Ritzville 53-43 in the championship game at Reardan. Derek Iranon added eight points and four blocks for the Crusaders (20-3). Cameron Stevenson scored a game-high 23 for the Broncos (15-8). … Travis Teaford scored 25 points and Eric Everett added 13 as Reardan (13-11) defeated Wilbur-Creston 56-43 for third place. Michael Johnson led the Wildcats (13-11) with 12 points. … Bi-Co top seed Northwest Christian will face Panorama League No. 4 Wellpinit at Mt. Spokane as District 7 B action kicks off Monday. Also at Mt. Spokane, Bi-Co No. 3 Reardan will face Panorama No. 2 Curlew. At Mead, Bi-Co No. 2 Lind-Ritzville squares off against Panorama No. 3 Selkirk, and Bi-Co No. 4 Wilbur-Creston faces Panorama champion Republic.

Panorama League Tournament: Derek Gianukakis had 27 points and 16 rebounds as Republic cruised to a 76-60 victory over Curlew in Colville for its third straight tournament championship. Zach Gianukakis added 14 points, 10 rebounds and five steals for the Tigers (20-2), while Todd Orestad chipped in with 16 points and five assists. Tyler Carlson led three Cougars (17-4) in double figures with 19 points.

District 9 B Tournament: Kelly Cook hit five 3-pointers in the first half and scored 21 points as Tekoa-Oakesdale defeated Tri-Cities Prep 55-52 in a first-round game at Walla Walla Community College. Austin Cook had 10 points and five assists for the Nighthawks (16-7), and Alex Hovde added nine points and 12 rebounds. Robert Soulia had 22 points and 13 boards for the Jaguars (19-3), who were called for traveling with 5 seconds left and a chance to tie. … Jesse Butcher had 23 of his 25 points in the first half and added seven assists as St. John-Endicott routed Dayton (9-14) 82-48. Brent Leifer had 11 points and eight assists for the Eagles (19-3), who cruised to a 52-19 halftime lead. … In today’s action at Walla Walla High School, Liberty Christian (16-6) and LaCrosse-Washtucna (12-10) will square off at 1:30 p.m. in first-round action, followed by Asotin (15-9) and DeSales (16-6) at 5:30. Tri-Cities Prep will face Dayton in a loser-out affair at 8:30.

District 8 3A Tournament

Kyle Miller scored a game-high 11 points, and Calynne Oyolokor added eight points, seven rebounds and three steals as Cheney kept its season alive with a 33-28 victory over visiting North Central in a loser-out game. The Blackhawks (8-13) forced 28 turnovers and held the Indians to 21 percent shooting. Ashlee Michelson led NC (5-17) with 11 points and 14 rebounds. … Cheney advances to today’s game against East Valley (8-13) at Mt. Spokane for the Greater Spokane League’s second and third seeds to next week’s Eastern Regional. On Tuesday, the winner will face the winner of today’s West Valley (Yakima)/Hanford winner in a winner-to-state game, while the loser will face the loser of the Prosser/Ellensburg game in a loser-out affair.

District 7 1A Tournament

Jordan Harazin had 12 points and six steals as top-seeded Colfax cruised to a 54-24 victory over No. 4 Kettle Falls at Mead High School. Sadie Lazzarini added eight points and four steals for Colfax (18-3), which forced 40 turnovers. Liz Beardslee led KF (5-15) with 12 points. … Jessie DePell scored 22 points and Carley Heinen added 12 to lead Freeman (17-3) to a 60-46 victory over Newport. Maria Barranco scored 14 to lead the Grizzlies (5-16). … Freeman and Colfax will square off today at Mead for the district title at 7:30 p.m. That game will be preceded by Kettle Falls and Newport in a loser-out game at 4:30.

Class B

Bi-County League Tournament: Stacie Shields scored 25 points and Maria Rustemeyer added 15 as Sprague-Harrington (23-0) continued its perfect season with a 76-57 victory over Liberty in the championship game at Reardan. Cami Bullock led the Lancers (18-4) with 17. … Darci Dehn had 15 points and 13 rebounds as Davenport (17-7) routed Reardan 61-39 in the third-place game. Jen Christerson had 15 points and six boards for the Indians (11-13). … Bi-Co champion Sprague-Harrington will square off against Panorama League No. 4 Republic (10-14) at Mt. Spokane as District 7 B action begins Monday. Bi-Co No. 3 Davenport will face Panorama No. 2 Cusick (17-6) in Mt. Spokane’s other matchup. At Mead, Bi-Co No. 2 Liberty plays Panorama No. 3 Inchelium (20-4), while Bi-Co No. 4 Reardan faces Panorama champ Curlew (20-2).

Panorama League Tournament: Nichole Miller scored 29 points and shot 13 of 16 from the free-throw line to lead Curlew (20-2) to a 54-49 victory over Cusick in Colville for the championship. Misty Ostlie scored 10 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Panthers (17-6).

District 9 B Tournament: Stephanie Turner had 17 points and 10 rebounds as Dayton (18-4) defeated Colton 54-42 in first-round action at Walla Walla Community College. Sammie Druffel had 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Wildcats (16-8). … Sydney Gossard had 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals as St. John-Endicott defeated DeSales 42-38. Ellen Miller scored 12 to lead the Eagles (16-6), who forced 33 turnovers by the Irish (12-11). In today’s first-round action at Walla Walla High School, Tekoa-Oakesdale (15-7) leads off against Liberty Christian (17-5) at noon, followed by Pomeroy (10-12) and LaCrosse-Washtucna (17-5) at 3 p.m. Colton and DeSales will play a loser-out game at 7.

Idaho State Championships

Coeur d’Alene avenged an early-season loss by topping Borah 51-45 in Nampa, Idaho, to reach the State 5A basketball championship game. The Vikings will play Centennial tonight. Lindsay Stark scored 17 points and Deanna Dotts 14 for Coeur d’Alene. Another Inland Empire League team, Lake City, will play for the consolation title after defeating Eagle 47-44. The Timberwolves will play Boise. Three other Panhandle teams will be playing for titles today: Moscow (4A), Kellogg (3A) and Wallace (2A).
