Too many irons in the fired?
Martha Stewart says her version of “The Apprentice” was a flop because of too much competition – from Donald Trump.
Her “Apprentice” was supposed to be the only one, starting out by having her fire Trump on the air, she tells Newsweek magazine.
“Having two ‘Apprentices’ was as unfair to him as it was unfair to me,” Stewart says. “But Donald really wanted to stay on.”
Trump, who launches his fifth season next Monday, denied her story, noting that he co-owns the show.
“I wish she would be able to take responsibility for her failure,” Trump says.
Stewart lost an appeal last month, ending her criminal case for lying about a stock sale.
Her company’s stock was down by more than half during the past year, but she says advertisers and subscribers are returning to her “Martha Stewart Living” magazine and she has new projects planned, including a Sirius Satellite Radio show and another magazine, called Blueprint.
