Spurs keep SuperSonics reeling
SAN ANTONIO – Tony Parker scored 30 points and Bruce Bowen hit five 3-pointers to lead San Antonio to a 103-78 win over the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday night in the Spurs’ first home game this month.
The Spurs had been on an eight-game road “Rodeo” road trip before the All-Star break. San Antonio has taken this trip for the past four seasons while a rodeo was held at the AT&T Center. The Spurs finished the trip 6-2, but lost their last two games.
San Antonio handed Seattle its seventh loss in the last eight games.
The Spurs built up a first-half lead behind Parker’s eight layups, and then buried the Sonics under a barrage of 3-pointers in the second half.
San Antonio went 8 for 14 from behind the arc after the break and finished 11 for 21 in the game. Michael Finley connected on four 3s, including the 1,000th of his NBA career.
Bowen scored a season-high 17 points and Finley added 14. Tim Duncan had 13 points and 16 rebounds.
The Spurs extended a seven-point halftime lead into double digits early in the third quarter, and got it over 20 early in the fourth.
Ray Allen led Seattle with 20 points, Nick Collison scored 14 and had 11 rebounds, and Luke Ridnour contributed 13 points.
Rashard Lewis (8 points) left the game in the second half with a right-ankle sprain. He is averaging 21 points, but has been held under 10 in three of his last four games.
The Sonics have lost seven straight games on the road.
Rick Brunson played a scoreless eight minutes in his first game since Seattle’s opener. He missed 47 games with a left heel spur.
