Week ahead
EWU Eagles
Thursday: Montana, 7:05
Saturday: MSU, 7:05
Outlook: Last month the Eagles lost a 10-point lead in the first half in Bozeman, losing 82-70, and two days later led the Grizzlies by 10 with 10 minutes to go before losing by 78-72.
The Griz shoot just under 50 percent as a team and lead the league in scoring at 79.3 points.. The Bobcats have been up and down but are dangerous with seniors JaRon Jefferson (14.6), Marvin Moss (12.2) and Al Beye (11.4).
Gonzaga Bulldogs
Saturday: San Diego, 5 p.m. (KHQ-TV)
Monday: San Francisco, 6 p.m. (KAYU-TV)
Outlook: The 5th-ranked Bulldogs have a chance to finish a perfect 14-0 against league opponents for the second time in three years.
First up is the Toreros. USD boasts one of the league’s most consistent scorers in 6-foot-10 senior forward Nick Lewis (17.4 ppg).
The Dons have the league’s best shot blocker in Alan Wiggins, who is averaging 2.16 blocks per game.
Idaho Vandals
Saturday: at New Mexico State, 6:05 p.m.
Monday: at Louisiana Tech, 5 p.m.
Outlook: The Vandals are on the road for their last three regular-season games, beginning against New Mexico State on Saturday. Idaho, 0-11 on the road this season, is the only WAC team without a road win and hasn’t won a road contest since defeating Cal Poly on Feb. 5, 2005. New Mexico State has won three straight conference games.
WSU Cougars
Today: California, 5:30
Saturday: Stanford, 4
Outlook: These are the last two home games of the season and WSU will need to rebound from the 67-37 drubbing it took at the hands of Oregon last weekend. The Cougars were swept by this week’s opponents in the Bay Area in late January, the closer game of the two coming at Cal, where Richard Midgely’s defense on Josh Akognon and Leon Powe’s success at the free-throw line made the difference in a 55-53 game.
