A little history

Just because it’s the weekend doesn’t mean the little tykes can’t have an educational experience. The Rev. Moses Berry, curator of the Ozarks African-American Heritage Museum, is in town this weekend to speak about the history of slavery in the United States. Berry is descended from slaves.

Slavery artifacts and photographs will be on display Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Christ the Savior Orthodox Church, 12407 E. 16th Ave. Berry will lecture on “An African American Journey to the Ancient Church” at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. Both events are free and open to the public. Call 891-7632 for more information.

Pasta galore

You can never have too much pasta (just ask any Italian) and there’s sure to be a lot of it at St. Paschal’s Catholic Church Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The meal is a fund-raiser for St. Paschal’s Catholic School. There also will be a book fair held at the same time, so after you stuff yourself full of good food, browse through the books to find a good read suitable for a grey February day.

The feast will be served at 2521 N. Park Road. The cost is $25 per family or $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and children ages 5-12. Children 4 and under are free. Call 924-5090 for more information.

Spring is coming

Grab your “honey do” list and head over to the Spokane County Fairgrounds this weekend for the conclusion of the 28th annual Home and Yard Show put on by Jim Custer enterprises. If you have any projects in mind for this year it’s a good way to compare prices from different suppliers and contractors without driving all over town. And with the time you save you could curl up with a steaming cup of hot chocolate and plan which flowers you’ll plant this year.

The show is today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free. The fairgrounds are at Havana and Broadway.
