Changes made to B draws

J.D. Larson Staff writer

Changes were made in the brackets for the State B tournament after the first draw.

This was “to better reflect the draw criteria,” said Darin Hanson, WIAA director of marketing and media relations.

In the boys bracket, Neah Bay and Tacoma Baptist switched games because, according to draw procedure 4.b.2, when there are four teams from a district, the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds need to be in the same half-bracket, and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds need to be in the same half-bracket.

Neah Bay, the third seed from Districts 1-2-3, was drawn into the same half-bracket as No. 1 seed Lummi. Tacoma Baptist, the No. 4 seed, was bracketed with No. 2 seed Mt. Vernon Christian.

In the girls draw, all three District 4 teams were drawn into the bottom half of the bracket. According to draw procedure 4a, districts with two or more allocations shall have their No. 2 team placed in the opposite half bracket from the No. 1 team.

The initial draw had District 4 No. 1 Mossyrock on the same half as No. 2 Toutle Lake. Toutle Lake was switched with Sunnyside Christian, moving it into the top half.

Again, on the girls side, the District 1-2-3 teams were placed wrong as No. 3 King’s West, No. 4 Clallam Bay and No. 1 Evergreen Lutheran were all in the top bracket. This was fixed by switching King’s West with Morton, putting KW into the bottom half.
