Heatley booed as Thrashers win

Dany Heatley expected a warm reception from Atlanta fans in his first game against his former team. He didn’t get it.
With the fans booing Heatley’s every move, Vyacheslav Kozlov had three goals and an assist and Marian Hossa – acquired from Ottawa for Heatley in late August – added two goals and an assist Monday in Atlanta’s 8-3 victory over the Senators.
“I wasn’t putting too much emphasis on it. I think that you have to put it behind you,” said Heatley, who scored a goal with 6:37 remaining – his eighth straight game with a point and 26th goal of the season.
Heatley, the NHL’s rookie of the year in 2001-02 with the Thrashers, requested the trade to get away from the constant reminders of his 2003 Atlanta car wreck that killed Thrashers teammate Dan Snyder.
He was greeted by some cheers when he came out for the pregame warm-ups, but when the starting lineups were announced the boos were somewhat louder than the cheers. When play began, Heatley drew boos each time he touched the puck, the loudest coming when he scored.
Lightning 2, Islanders 1: At Uniondale, N.Y., Martin St. Louis’ short-handed breakaway goal with 4:57 left spoiled a brilliant goaltending performance by New York backup Garth Snow and gave Tampa Bay the win.
Snow, who made 41 saves, got the rare start because Rick DiPietro is nursing a left knee injury.
Maple Leafs 3, Penguins 2 (OT): At Toronto, former Spokane Chief Bryan McCabe spoiled Sidney Crosby’s NHL debut in Canada, scoring 1:02 into overtime to lead Toronto past Pittsburgh. Chad Kilger scored twice for the Maple Leafs, winners of a season-high six straight.
Crosby had an assist and now has five goals and five assists in five games since being snubbed for the Canadian Olympic team.
Blues 4, Canucks 1: At St. Louis, Mike Sillinger had two goals and an assist to lead St. Louis past Vancouver. Doug Weight had a goal and two assists and goalie Curtis Sanford made 30 saves for the Blues.
Flyers 1, Bruins 0: At Boston, Antero Niittymaki made 27 saves for his second career shutout, and Jeff Carter’s goal won it for Philadelphia.
Flames 3, Blackhawks 2: At Calgary, Alberta, Matthew Lombardi scored with 7:04 left in the third period to send Calgary past Chicago for its third straight victory.
Kings 3, Stars 2 (OT): At Los Angeles, Mattias Norstrom scored a power-play goal in overtime as L.A. beat Dallas in a matchup of the Pacific Division’s top teams.
