Around the area: The Bs
Bi-County: The Bi-Co is packed pretty tight just six games into the season, with no team undefeated in league and six out of 10 teams with one or two losses. Northwest Christian (7-1, 5-1) is tied with surprising Reardan (6-2, 5-1) atop the league, as the Indians may pattern their season after last year’s Lind-Ritzville boys, who turned a state football championship into a fourth-place state basketball finish. Odessa, Valley Christian and Liberty are all 4-2 and a game back, with Wilbur-Creston right behind at 3-2.
Panorama: Interdivision play begins this week, and it might help sort out the state tournament hopefuls from the rest on the girls’ side. Wellpinit, Curlew and Inchelium are all 4-1 in the North Division, and Cusick and St. George’s are both 3-0 in the South. The boys appear to be a little more clear-cut, as both Republic (North) and Selkirk (South) made it through one round inside of the division without losing.
Whitman County League: After snapping an 84-game league losing streak just last season, Rosalia boys basketball (4-5, 2-0) sits in second place after beating Asotin 42-33 on Dec. 17 and Garfield-Palouse 47-36 on Tuesday, the Spartans’ first win over the Vikings in their last 39 tries. Rosalia faces Colton (1-8, 0-3) Friday at home and LaCrosse-Washtucna (4-4, 0-2) Saturday in Washtucna before Tuesday’s matchup with first-place St. John-Endicott (8-2, 3-0). On the girls’ side, SJE (8-2, 3-0) is in control of the league early after beating Tekoa-Oakesdale (5-3, 2-1) 74-53 Tuesday. Ellen Miller scored a league season-high 30 points in that game, and she leads the WCL with 19.4 points a game, including 23.0 in league play.
