GSL basketball game of the week
Ferris boys (11-0, 3-0) at West Valley (8-2, 2-1) Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.
When the schedule first came out, GSL basketball fans circled this date as a possible league-deciding game. Then North Central popped up and defeated WV’s Eagles twice, including a league contest. Now preseason favorite WV must win if it wants to keep any title hopes alive. The Ferris Saxons proved Tuesday against Central Valley they can win (43-29) no matter the pace, though their game with WV figures to be an up-and-down affair.
Area game of the week
Selkirk boys (9-3, 6-0) at Republic (9-2, 7-0) Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
If you can get up to Ferry County and across Sherman Pass, you’ll get to see the best regular-season B boys matchup this year. Selkirk, ranked sixth by WashingtonPreps.com, is led by athletic junior forward Travis Zimmerman, averaging 15.9 points a game, and the Rangers have four other players averaging more than eight a game. The second-ranked Tigers have the Gianukakis brothers (Derek and Zach), combining for 44.1 a game, but this one might hinge on Republic’s role players.
