Dotson on top as Panthers win at GSL meet

Mead’s Ashley Dotson won every event except the balance beam, in which she took second, en route to the all-around title in a Greater Spokane League gymnastics meet at Mead on Thursday night.

Dotson had 35.725 points, while teammate Tonya Turner took second with 34.6. Mead won the team title, finishing with 165.175 points, well ahead of second-place Shadle Park (151.15). Ferris was third with 149.15, with Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) fourth with 143.9.

In other GSL action, University’s Kayla McGahey, with 35.425 points, beat out Central Valley’s Maya Morgan (34.15) to win the all-around title as U-Hi (162.9) won the team title over CV (159.5) in a dual meet at U-Hi.

Wrestling

Medical Lake beat Pullman by the smallest of margins, eking out a 37-36 victory in a Great Northern League wrestling dual at Medical Lake. The match was tied 36-36 after the wrestling was finished, but based on the criteria of the matches, Medical Lake was awarded the win. … In other GNL action, Riverside used a stretch of three straight pins to beat Chewelah 48-23 in a dual at Chewelah. Chuck Gillam (119 pounds), Robert Spackman (125) and Jake Bender (130) had the consecutive pins.

Basketball

Luke LeCaire had a game-high 24 points as Northport’s boys hit 13 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter en route to a 73-65 non-league win over Kettle Falls’ JV at Northport. Sam Burke added 22 points for Northport (3-9). … In other non-league action, Joe Smetana scored 18 points, but it wasn’t enough as Colton (1-12) fell behind 18-3 after one quarter and lost to Logos (9-3) of Moscow, Idaho, 59-46 at Colton. Justin Spencer led Logos with 17 points.

•Northport’s girls game against Kettle Falls’ JV side was postponed. No make-up date was announced.
