Chiefs’ slide reaches six games

SEATTLE – The Spokane Chiefs’ losing streak hit six games Wednesday on the heels of a 4-3 shootout loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds at Key Arena in Western Hockey League play.

Seattle (19-20-1-3) took the lead in the first period when Bretton Stamler scored at the 4:03 mark. With just more than 2 minutes remaining in the period, Johannes Salmonsson answered for Spokane (17-23-4-1).

Spokane cashed in on the power play at 5:36 of the second period when Salmonsson scored his second goal.

The Chiefs took a 3-1 lead when Derek Ryan scored 29 seconds into the third period. Seattle answered with goals by Greg Scott (13:13) and Chris Durand (17:37) to knot the score.

In the shootout, Seattle scored on its first two opportunities, while Spokane came up with nothing.

“Spokane’s Michael Grabner scored a goal and had two assists, and Kevin Armstrong allowed one goal in 1 1/2 periods as Team Orr beat Team Cherry 7-2 in a CHL/NHL Top Prospects game in Ottawa.
