Gonzaga holds off San Diego 81-66

Freshman Sasha Polishchuck came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points and Ashley Anderson tallied 22 points and 10 rebounds as Gonzaga defeated San Diego 81-66 in a West Coast Conference meeting on Thursday night at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

The Bulldogs (8-12, 3-2) were able to hold off several second-half charges by the Toreros (6-11, 1-3), who cut the lead to seven at the 9-minute mark.

With the win, Gonzaga moves into a tie for second place in the conference. Tiara Harris led San Diego with 23 points.

•Natalie Doma led four players in double figures with 28 points, and Idaho State topped Eastern Washington 89-68 in a Big Sky game in Pocatello, Idaho. Andrea Lightfoot (18 points), Danica Boyce (16) and Jeni Boesel (11) also helped the Bengals (8-9, 2-1). Jamie Chicane led the Eagles (7-8, 1-1) with 16 points.

•Elearon Haring and Carolyn Ganes each scored 10 points to lead Oregon past Washington State 54-50 in a Pac-10 matchup in Eugene, Ore. The Cougars (6-11, 0-8) went on a 14-0 run late in the second half to cut their deficit to 48-45, but Brandi Davis’ turnaround jumper with just over three minutes to play halted WSU’s momentum. Davis then hit two free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win for the Ducks (11-6, 2-5).

Kate Benz led the Cougars with 14 points and five rebounds, and Katie Appleton added 12 points and six rebounds.

•Andrea Plouffe scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds as Washington topped Oregon State 70-53 in a Pac-10 game in Corvallis, Ore. Tiffany Ducker had 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and seven steals for Oregon State, but the Beavers (7-8, 1-6) could not overcome a 39-15 halftime deficit.

Cameo Hicks added 14 points for the Huskies (13-4, 6-2), including 12 in the first half. Washington forced 29 Oregon State turnovers, and the Beavers had more turnovers (18) than points (15) in the first half.

• Amy Parrish scored 23 points on 11 of 16 field-goal shooting to lead Fresno State past Idaho 76-57 in a Western Athletic Conference game in Moscow, Idaho.

Brittani Green and Andrea Roberson scored 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs (12-4, 4-0). Emily Faurholt had 15 points for the Vandals (7-9, 3-2), and Leilani Mitchell and Jessica Summers each added 10.
