St. Louis
Funny in a game that started with the Rams’ Chris Johnson returning the opening kick 99 yards for a touchdown that Seattle’s punt coverage unit would produce the key play.
The Seahawks, 2-2 at this point after a disheartening loss to Washington, got into a shootout with the Rams and were leading 37-31 late in the fourth quarter. St. Louis’ Shaun McDonald fielded a punt, but Jordan Babineaux knocked the ball loose and long-snapper J.P. Darche recovered.
Seattle ran out the remaining 2:51 for its first victory over the Rams since 2003. The victory also showed the depth of Seattle’s roster as Joe Jurevicius, filling in for injured starting receivers Bobby Engram and Darrell Jackson, had nine catches for 137 yards. The defense allowed 386 yards, but held St. Louis to 10 second-half points, despite losing three starters (cornerback Andre Dyson, linebacker D.D. Lewis and safety Michael Boulware) to injury.
“A win like this will help us down the road,” coach Mike Holmgren said
