Hilton Armstrong had 16 points and 12 rebounds and Josh Boone added nine points and 13 boards on Saturday to lead No. 1 Connecticut to its seventh straight win, a 76-62 victory over Providence in Providence, R.I.

The road team had won five straight matchups between the teams, including UConn’s 94-89 double-overtime victory in Providence last year. But the Huskies (18-1, 6-1 Big East) used a 52-34 rebounding edge to score 36 second-chance points to 11 for the Friars.

Providence (9-9, 2-5) fell to 0-5 against ranked teams this season and has not beaten one in 15 tries.

Donnie McGrath scored 18 points for Providence, Randall Hanke had 16 and Sharaud Curry 15. Hanke also had five blocked shots, and his back-to-back layups pulled Providence within 50-45 midway through the second half.

But UConn scored the next seven points, getting a tip-in from Denham Brown, two free throws from Boone and another tip-in from Rudy Gay that made it 56-45 with 9 minutes left. Brown finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, and Gay scored 10.
