Storm hand Liberty sixth straight loss

Lauren Jackson scored 26 points and the Seattle Storm beat New York 86-66 on Friday night for the Liberty’s sixth straight loss.

Jackson scored 14 points in the third quarter as the Storm lengthened their lead to 32 points – 64-32 – with 5:36 to go. She sank a 3-pointer with 24.9 seconds left in the period to put Seattle in front 73-46.

By halftime, the game was nearly over, with Seattle leading 49-28. The Storm’s biggest lead in the opening half was 49-23 with 1:07 left after two free throws by Shaunzinski Gortman.

Comets 82, Sky 77: Michelle Snow tied a career high with 24 points and added 10 rebounds to help Houston beat host Chicago.

Sheryl Swoopes had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Comets.

Sparks 95, Mercury 85: Lisa Leslie had 30 points, 12 rebounds and six assists to help visiting Los Angeles beat Phoenix.

The Sparks held off a second-half rally by the Mercury, sparked by a 22-point third quarter by Diana Taurasi, who finished with 34 points.

Sting 81, Silver Stars 65: At Charlotte, N.C., Tangela Smith scored 25 points and Charlotte snapped a five-game losing streak by beating San Antonio.
