Cowboys’ Davis shot while driving

The Spokesman-Review

Dallas Cowboys safety Keith Davis was shot twice while driving on a Dallas highway early Sunday and was hospitalized in stable condition after undergoing surgery to remove bullet fragments.

Injuries were minor and Davis was expected to be released late Sunday or today.

This is the second time in three years that Davis has been shot. He was an innocent bystander last time, and this time Stephens said the player was driving home from a family vacation.

“The thing that’s really pertinent here is that Keith was not involved in any type of criminal activity or anything like that,” Davis’ agent Curtis Stephens said. “This is not the residual effect of that.”

Heat retain Mourning

More money couldn’t lure Alonzo Mourning away from Miami. It was the fans who convinced him to delay retirement and play one more season with the Heat.

The 36-year-old center said he declined high-paying offers from other teams, including the San Antonio Spurs, to help the Miami Heat defend their NBA championship. “I think it’s only fitting I retire in a Heat jersey,” Mourning said.

Ghana’s soccer coach Ratomir Dujkovic has decided to resign due to health concerns.

The 60-year-old coach submitted a letter Thursday saying he was leaving because of his health, but didn’t provide further details.

Under Dujkovic, Ghana debuted at the World Cup with victories over the Czech Republic and the United States. Ghana was the only African team to advance to the second round, where it lost to Brazil.
