Darin Holcomb slugged his sixth home run of the season in the third inning and drove in the tiebreaking run in the seventh as the Spokane RiverHawks edged the Kelowna Falcons 8-7 in a West Coast Collegiate Baseball League game to sweep the three-game series at Avista Stadium Wednesday night.

Carl Uhl walked and stole second to open the Spokane seventh to set up Holcomb’s RBI hit.

A five-run sixth inning put the RiverHawks up 7-4 before Kelowna tied the game with three in the top of the seventh.

In the Spokane sixth, Nick Froman had an RBI double, Brent Mertens a two-run double and Brian Yardley an RBI single. Mertens and Yardley were both 2 for 4.

Cal Ort (3-1), the second of three Spokane pitchers, got the win with A.J. Proszek picking up his first save.

The first-place RiverHawks improved to 20-7. They hit the road for two games in Bend beginning Friday before traveling to Portland to play Aloha in a three-game set.

•Outfielder Uhl, who led the team to a series win at Moses Lake over the weekend, was named WCCBL player of the week. He went 7 for 14 in the three-game series against the Pirates.

Golf

Gonzaga University’s Mary Kate Morgan of Longview, Wash., lost in the first round of match play at the North and South Women’s Amateur Championship at Pinehurst, N.C. She fell to Jeehae Lee of Newhaven, Conn., 4 and 2. Morgan reached match play by shooting 150 over two rounds of qualifying.
