In brief: Tradition to leave Portland area in 2007
The Tradition, the final major on the Champions Tour, is moving from the Portland area to the Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Ore., starting in 2007, event sponsor Jeld-Wen announced Tuesday.
This year’s Tradition will be played Aug. 21-27 at the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha where it has been held since 2003. Loren Roberts is the defending champion.
The agreement with Crosswater runs through 2010. Jeld-Wen, an Oregon-based maker of windows and doors, also agreed to extend its agreement as title sponsor for four years.

Love headed to UCLA
Lake Oswego High School’s Kevin Love, considered one of the nation’s top basketball prospects, said he will play for UCLA.
Love’s announcement ends months of speculation on whether he would choose the Bruins or North Carolina. Duke also was interested in him.
Although he cannot sign a letter of intent until November, he said he wanted to end the speculation and relax for the rest of the summer before his senior year with the Lakers.
Under NCAA rules, UCLA coach Ben Howland cannot comment on Love’s decision before he signs.

Recchi returns, again
Mark Recchi has returned to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the third time in his career.
Recchi played 63 games for the Penguins last season, scoring 24 goals and 33 assists, before he was traded to the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes. He became a free agent when the Hurricanes opted not to pick up a one-year option on his contract for $2.28 million, and signed with the Penguins.
The 38-year-old winger was drafted by the Penguins in 1988 and played on Pittsburgh’s first Stanley Cup-winning team during the 1990-91 season before he was traded to Philadelphia.

Terry signs with Mavs
Jason Terry signed a six-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks worth around $50 million.
Terry was the team’s second-leading scorer last season and a big reason why the Mavericks made the NBA finals for the first time. The Mavericks said he was their No. 1 off-season priority and proved it, agreeing to a deal worth around $50 million about 12 hours after negotiations could begin July 1.
Contracts weren’t allowed to be signed until July 12, and Terry had been traveling since then.

Powell won the 100 meters in 9.86 seconds and Wariner clocked 44.02 in the 400.
