Baseball/Softball

August 19: North Central High School invites back any graduate who played varsity baseball to its annual alumni game. Various: Try out for the Oakley Monster Dogs, a newly founded baseball team in Spokane. The team will be made up of 16 and 17-year-olds from the Pacific Northwest. Tryouts will be held the last week of July. For more information, contact Scott Pate at 217-7382.

Sign up: Spokane Parks and Recreation is offering a fall softball league. Teams will play five double-headers beginning Sept. 10. Registration deadline is Aug. 16. Cost: $380 per team. Info: 477-4730.

Camping/Hiking

July 29: 8-mile Grassy Top Mountain hike. No cost. Info: 999-5100.

August 5: Hoodoo Canyon and Emerald Lake Hike. This hike through one of the largest remaining low-elevation roadless areas in the Kettle Range is approximately six miles long and is moderately challenging. Info: Dinah Reed, 456-2226 or Chris Baldini, 927-9356.

August 12: Thirteen Mile Creek Hike. This 6-mile hike follows a rushing creek. No cost. Info: 838-4912.

August 12-13: Abercrombie Mountain Backpack. Wilderness backpacking experience is required for this 12-16 mile trip. No cost. Info: 270-6883.

Officiating

August 6: The Inland Empire Football Officials Association will hold its first organizational meeting of the year at Gonzaga University’s Jepson Center. Golf

Cycling

August 19-21: Iron Horse Trail Bike Tour. Each day riders will ride a downhill section of the Iron Horse exploring the lakes, streams and small towns. Ages 16 and over. Cost: $299. Info: 625-6200.
