Pirates 6, Padres 4: At Pittsburgh, Zach Duke pitched seven strong innings to lift the Pirates past San Diego.

Cubs 8, Cardinals 5: At St. Louis, Aramis Ramirez hit a grand slam and Phil Nevin added a two-run homer in his first start with the Cubs as Chicago beat the Cardinals.

Dodgers 8, Phillies 2: At Los Angeles, Brad Penny allowed one hit over six innings as the Dodgers knocked off Philadelphia.

Reds 7, Astros 5: At Houston, Bronson Arroyo went 3 for 3, drove in a career-high four runs and pitched six strong innings to lead Cincinnati past the Astros.

Nationals 4, Brewers 3: At Milwaukee, Brian Schneider hit a two-run homer in the ninth to lift Washington past the Brewers.

Marlins 13, Rockies 0: At Denver, rookie right-hander Ricky Nolasco threw eight shutout innings as Florida beat Colorado.

Mets 4-3, Giants 6-2 (11, 2nd): At New York, pinch-runner Lastings Milledge scored on Chris Woodward’s sac fly as the Mets beat San Francisco. In the opener, Eliezer Alfonzo delivered a go-ahead homer for his first major league hit as the Giants won.
