Florence Hart

Spokane

Florence Irene Sanger Hart celebrated her 108th birthday on Tuesday. She was born June 27, 1898, in Los Angeles and has been a resident of Spokane for the past 18 years.

Hart met her husband, Harold, on a blind date, and they were married in 1923. He is deceased.

At age 80, Hart started making cloth dolls and wall hangings and did that until she was 105. She says that caring for her family, along with her small business, and knitting for her family, friends and herself are her most rewarding life achievements.

Hart also says that good eating habits and meeting life’s problems with her favorite saying, “This too shall pass,” have helped her live a long and happy life.

When asked what her most memorable moment in history is, she always says the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Hart is the mother of two sons, Russell Hart, Chattaroy, and Ted Hart (deceased). She has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
