UCLA knocks off Stanford to win conference title
UCLA can savor the Pac-10 championship all alone.
Arron Afflalo led four players in double figures with 16 points and the 15th-ranked Bruins captured their first conference title in nine years Saturday with a 75-64 victory over Stanford in Stanford, Calif., securing the top seed in next week’s Pac-10 tournament.
Jordan Farmar added 13 points and seven assists, Ryan Hollins had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Luc Richard Mbah a Moute contributed 12 points and nine rebounds.
Dan Grunfeld scored 14 points and Anthony Goods 12 to lead Stanford.
California 71, USC 60: Leon Powe had 22 points and 11 rebounds to wrap up his Pac-10 titles in both categories, and the Bears secured the No. 3 seed in next week’s conference tournament with a victory over the Trojans in Berkeley, Calif.
Powe (19.9) edged Washington’s Brandon Roy (19.7) for the scoring title and also earned his second conference rebounding title after leading the Pac-10 as a freshman in 2003-04.
Oregon State 65, Oregon 62: Sasa Cuic had 21 points and Chris Stephens scored 13 to lead the Beavers to a win over the Ducks in Portland.
Chamberlain Oguchi had 20 points for the Ducks, who will play Washington State in the first round of the Pac-10 tourney on Wednesday.
Oregon State will play Arizona State.
