Dixie advances to play North Idaho

Fourth-seeded Dixie (17-14) jumped in front early and never let up in eliminating Eastern Utah 96-65 in the opening round of the Region 18 women’s basketball tournament at North Idaho College’s Christianson Gym.

The Rebels (17-14) will face top-seeded and 12th-ranked North Idaho in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday.

Jessica Carver scored 20 points and Lauren Olander added 16 for the Rebels, who made 50 percent from the field and 30 of 40 free throws. Kaylynn Frager paced the fifth-seeded Golden Eagles (16-15) with 13 points.

•Third-seeded Salt Lake used a 52-point second half to pull away and eliminate No. 6 Snow 86-68.

The Bruins (22-8) will face Southern Idaho in the semifinals at noon Friday.

Breanne Law led Salt Lake with 21 points. Teammate Katie King scored 20 on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and grabbed seven rebounds. Tori Lybbert of the Badgers (8-21) led all scorers with 26 and grabbed 10 rebounds.

•Southern Idaho took a 70-23 halftime lead before posting a 103-54 win over seventh-seeded Colorado Northwestern (0-29).

Jalena Williams led the second-seeded and 20th-ranked Golden Eagles (25-6) with 14 points.
