Bondra caps wild Thrashers win over Devils

Peter Bondra scored 1 minute, 3 seconds into overtime to give the Atlanta Thrashers a 6-5 win over New Jersey on Thursday night in Atlanta and a four-game season sweep of the Devils.

Bondra knocked in a rebound shot from Andy Sutton, whose shot bounced off goaltender Martin Brodeur’s chest and onto Bondra’s stick.

It was the Thrashers’ third straight win and eighth in 10 games and New Jersey’s fifth loss in six games. It lifted Atlanta within a point of the Devils for seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

The top eight teams make the postseason. Atlanta has 12 games left and New Jersey has 13.

The Thrashers overcame a 4-1 third-period deficit, scoring four times in the final period.

Patrick Stefan, Vyacheslav Kozlov, Bobby Holik, Ilya Kovalchuk and Marian Hossa also scored for Atlanta.

Zach Parise, Jamie Langenbrunner, Brad Lukovich, Brian Gionda, Patrik Elias tallied for New Jersey.

Canucks 4, Oilers 3 (SO): At Vancouver, British Columbia, Markus Naslund tied it with 8:24 left and Naslund, Jarkko Ruutu and Todd Bertuzzi all scored in the shootout to help Vancouver win its second straight game over Edmonton.

Red Wings 4, Sharks 0: At Detroit, Manny Legace stopped 28 shots to record his 12th career shutout and lift the Red Wings over San Jose.

Canadiens 5, Maple Leafs 1: At Montreal, Alex Kovalev scored his 18th goal of the season to cap Montreal’s four-goal first period in a win over Toronto.

Flames 7, Blues 2: At St. Louis, defenseman Roman Hamrlik scored two goals to help Calgary beat St. Louis.

Lightning 4, Capitals 3 (OT): At Tampa, Fla., Ryan Craig’s third-period goal forced overtime and Pavel Kubina scored 37 seconds into the extra period to lift Tampa Bay over Washington.

Coyotes 4, Blackhawks 3: At Glendale, Ariz., Steven Reinprecht had a goal and two assists as Phoenix edged Chicago for its third straight win.
