Athletics 10, Angels 3: At Anaheim, Calif., Eric Chavez hit his 200th career homer, a three-run shot, and Bobby Crosby added a three-run homer as Oakland defeated Los Angeles in a fight-marred game. Los Angeles pitcher John Lackey and Oakland catcher Jason Kendall got into a bench-clearing fight and were ejected.

Rangers 7, Devil Rays 5: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Mark DeRosa hit a two-run homer, one of Texas’ three in the game, to help defeat Tampa Bay.

Indians 7, White Sox 1: At Cleveland, C.C. Sabathia, activated from the disabled list before the game, made a strong return after injuring himself on opening night and Travis Hafner drove in four runs to lead Cleveland over Chicago.

Orioles 9, Blue Jays 2: At Baltimore, Kris Benson took a shutout into the seventh, and Baltimore’s struggling bullpen (6.47 ERA) preserved the lead in a win over Toronto.

Tigers 4, Royals 1: At Detroit, Brandon Inge and Craig Monroe homered and Mike Maroth pitched six strong innings as Detroit defeated Kansas City for its fifth straight win.

Yankees at Red Sox, ppd.: The series finale was rained out and rescheduled for Aug. 18 as part of a day-night doubleheader.
