Whitworth’s season ends at NCAAs

Kailee Roeser hit a single to right-center field in the top of the seventh inning, scoring Angela Guajardo and giving top-seeded Chapman a 4-3 victory over Whitworth that eliminated the Pirates from the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday in Redlands, Calif.

Erin Dudzinski scored the tying run earlier in the inning for the Panthers (28-9) on a single by Meredith Cipolla.

Lindsay Davis opened the scoring for Whitworth with a solo home run in the first, and Rachel Anderson added a go-ahead, two-run single with the bases loaded in the sixth.

The Pirates finished the season 26-14.

Baseball

Dustin Colclough hit a three-run homer with two outs to cap a six-run ninth inning as Gonzaga rallied to defeat host San Diego (30-22, 11-8) 7-5 in a West Coast Conference game.

Scott Campbell started the rally with a bases-loaded, two-run single for the Bulldogs (28-21, 9-10), then Darin Holcomb (Shadle Park High) hit an RBI groundout to set up Colclough.

•Stanford’s Greg Reynolds threw a shutout in his third straight complete game as the Cardinal (25-21, 8-11) defeated Washington (32-21, 9-10) 5-0 in a Pac-10 game in Seattle.

Golf

All-American Anastasia Kostina of Washington State is tied for 30th after shooting 77 in the second round of the NCAA Women’s West Regional in Auburn, Wash.

The Cougars are 19th in the 21-team field.

Track and field

Senior Jen Broncheau won the women’s hammer throw, and sophomores Dee Olson and Mandy Macalister led a 1-2 finish in the 10,000 meters to lead Idaho to first place after the first day of the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Honolulu.

Broncheau threw 189 feet, 9 inches to win the hammer by 2 feet.

Olson ran the 10,000 in 36 minutes, 39.34 seconds to defeat Macalister by more than 56 seconds. The Vandals have 47 points after seven events to lead Louisiana Tech by four and Utah State by seven.

On the men’s side, Boise State leads with 70 points. Idaho and Utah State are tied for second at 43.

WSU, KXLY extend deal

Washington State University and KXLY Broadcast Group confirmed a contract extension, giving the Spokane-based group the rights to all regular-season Cougars athletic events through 2012.
