Dish offers high-def local channels

High-definition programming from the four major broadcast networks is now available to Dish Network satellite television subscribers in the Spokane area.

Dish is broadcasting the main high-definition channels for ABC (KXLY-4), CBS (KREM-2), Fox (KAYU-28) and NBC (KHQ-6).

Those channels also are available on Comcast cable but not yet through the other major satellite provider, DirecTV.

Having high-definition channels available via satellite is particularly important in a large geographic market like Spokane’s, which includes rural areas without easy access to cable service, said Jon Rand, KAYU general manager.
