Though it was only 10 years old, the Best Western Pheasant Hill hotel near the Valley Hospital needed a facelift.

Its furniture was getting dated, the workout and business facilities were small, and the north side of the building was literally sinking in unstable fill dirt.

“The traveling public has changed in what they anticipate from a hotel,” said Christine Cochran, the director of operations at the hotel. “Now we want to provide every amenity possible for the guest.”

The hotel recently finished a $1 million renovation, which brought new carpet, furniture and pillow-top mattresses to the rooms, as well as expanded business rooms and an attractive set of suites. The building’s foundation also was brought up to good shape.

“Change has been our middle name for about eight months now,” Cochran said.

The hotel doubled its exercise facility space, as well as expanding the business center. High speed Internet is available throughout the building.

The hotel is looking to build a restaurant across its parking lot, Cochran said.

“It’s very tough to navigate across the street,” Cochran said. “We hope to have it open by next spring, so people can walk across the parking lot to a nice restaurant.”
