Ten receive two-year scholarships

“Ten area students have been awarded Washington Award for Vocational Excellence scholarships. The awards are given to students recognized for their achievement, leadership and community service. Three students are chosen in each of the state’s 49 legislative districts. The scholarships pay for two years of college tuition.

Danielle Dacar, Spokane Skills Center; Janna Erickson, University High School; Ronald Fabros, Spokane Community College, studying architectural technology; Jonathan Knopes, Walla Walla Community College in Clarkston, nursing; Tiesha McCain, Ferris; Susan Mulvihill, Spokane Falls Community College, physical therapy; Benjamin Price, SCC, electrical maintenance; Brandon Staub, SCC, respiratory care; Lauren Quick, Ferris; Christina Voedisch, Lewis and Clark.

“Four area high school students have been awarded scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year at Washington State University.

Zachary Evans was awarded a $2,500 University Achievements Award. Evans, a senior at Central Valley High School, is the son of John and Carol Evans of Veradale.

Brian Eveland was awarded a $3,000 Crimson Regents Scholarship and a $200 Arthur and Bess Mikalson Endowed Scholarship. Eveland, a senior at Colville High School, is the son of Rich and Phyllis Eveland of Colville.

Michael Pierce was given a $2,500 University Achievement Award. Pierce, the son of Coary and Jan Pierce of Spokane, is a senior at University High School.

Mara Ryan was given a $3,000 Crimson Regents Scholarship and a $2,000 College of Engineering and Architecture Dean’s Merit Award. Ryan, a senior at Mead High School, is the daughter of Greg and Kim Ryan of Spokane.

“Six students from the Inland Northwest have been named to the winter term dean’s list at the University of Oregon. The students are: Jeremy Adams and Colin Maxwell of Coeur d’Alene; Devin Pierce of Hayden, Idaho; Nichole Lovrich of Pullman; and Stephanie Bobiak and Maureen Myers of Spokane. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.75 or higher to be named to the list. Students are listed by their hometowns.
