Roberts sets Colville record

John Roberts scored twice, once on an 85-yard kickoff return and the other on an 88-yard run, as Colville rolled to a 35-14 win Thursday over visiting Riverside to capture the Great Northern League football title outright.

Roberts finished with 163 yards on nine carries and broke the school record for rushing yards in a season with 1,438, breaking the previous record of 1,423.

Colville improved to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in league play and will face the CWAC’s No. 3 seed in the first round of state.

In other league action, four different players scored rushing touchdowns as Pullman rolled up 242 yards on the ground and defeated visiting Deer Park 29-0. Pullman (9-1, 6-1) will face Prosser in the first round of the State 2A tournament. DP finished 1-9, 1-6. … Isaac Woodbury finished 10 of 18 for 153 yards and two touchdowns as visiting Clarkston defeated West Valley 43-27. Clarkston finished 6-3, 5-2, West Valley 5-5, 3-4. … Jesus Fergoso rushed for 170 carries and two touchdowns on nine carries as Cheney rolled past Medical Lake 37-6. Fergoso scored on runs of 70 and 10 yards. Cheney ended the season at 5-5, 4-3. ML finished 1-8, 0-7.

Girls soccer

Kaley Way scored 3 minutes into the first overtime as West Valley defeated visiting Pullman 1-0 to advance to the State 2A tournament. Karina Carpenter registered the shutout for the Eagles (12-6), making 13 saves. In a match for state seeding, WV will face Cheney for the fourth time this season, this time at 1 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Falls Community College. Pullman, which defeated WV 3-0 in league play, ends its season at 16-3. … Amanda Swenson and Molly McClure each scored twice, and Amy Knox made five saves as Cheney shut out Deer Park 7-0 to qualify for state. The Blackhawks, on an 11-match winning streak, have notched three 2-0 wins over West Valley this season

Volleyball

At the District 7 1B tourney at Odessa, Chenise Pakootas and Chelsi Pakootas each had 12 kills to lead Inchelium past the host Tigers 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 in a state-qualifying match. Inchelium will play for the district title at 3 p.m. Saturday at Northwest Christian against Curlew. Destiny Christianson added 22 digs for Inchelium, and Jordan Frederick led Odessa with 14 digs. … At Curlew, Amanda Grumbach had 28 kills and three aces and Kady Kirkendall had 30 assists as Curlew beat Northport 25-9, 25-13, 25-20 to advance to the championship match. Kaprina Goodwin had 12 kills and six blocks for Northport, which will face Cusick at 11 a.m. Saturday at NWC in a loser-out match. … Chenise Pakootas had eight kills and two blocks to lead Inchelium past Cusick 25-14, 25-13, 25-11 in the first round. Chelsi Pakootas added 10 assists in the win. Kirsten Coredes and Holly Edwards had three kills each for Cusick. … Goodwin had 28 kills and 10 blocks as Northport rolled past Almira/Coulee-Hartline 25-9, 25-16, 25-18 in the first round. Andrea Edwards had five kills for the Warriors, who will face Odessa at 1 p.m. Saturday at NWC in a loser-out match. The winners of the loser-out matches will face each other at 5 p.m. for the third and final berth to state.

“At the District 9 1B tournament in Pomeroy, Kelsi Graffis had 11 kills as Tekoa-Oakesdale defeated Rosalia 25-18, 25-9, 25-23 to qualify for the state tournament. The Nighthawks will face Sprague-Harrington at 2 p.m. Saturday at Colfax for the district title and state seeding. … S-H defeated LaCrosse-Washtucna 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 in the other semifinal to advance to state. … Graffis had 11 kills, five aces and four blocks at T-O opened the day with a 25-12, 25-9, 25-4 win over Tri-Cities Prep. … Courtney Shoemaker had six kills and nine blocks as S-H opened with a 25-22, 25-20, 25-16 win over Garfield-Palouse. … In other first-round matches, Rosalia outlasted Touchet 23-25, 25-19, 25-17, 24-26, 15-13, and L-W defeated Liberty Christian 26-24, 25-22, 25-19. … In loser-out play, Liberty Christian outlasted Gar-Pal 20-25, 25-23, 27-25, 16-25, 15-13, and Touchet eliminated Tri-Cities Prep 25-23, 24-26, 25-16, 23-25, 15-6. … In winner-to-state, loser-out matches Saturday at Colfax, Rosalia plays Liberty Christian at 11 a.m. and Touchet will face L-W at 12:30 p.m. The winners will face off for seeding at 3:30.
