Comparison in poor taste

The Spokesman-Review

First, I want to say congratulations to Sue Doering and the Colfax volleyball team on its state championship victory over Lakeside.

However, as to Doering’s perversion of the biblical story of David and Goliath (The Spokesman-Review, Nov. 12), I have to say, shame on you!

We hold coaches to a certain standard of propriety and sportsmanship when we entrust our children to them. For Doering to compare beating Lakeside to … not just putting their foot on Goliath’s throat but rather grabbing his sword and cutting his head off … is absolutely reprehensible. What kind of reasonable adult uses that type of trash-talking metaphor? Worse yet, Doering is a teacher and coach.

We expect better of our children’s role models.
