THE SLICE

Here are five things to remember about Thanksgiving.

1.) This is a big week for family-story osmosis.

That’s the process whereby children somehow absorb family lore even though they do not appear to be paying the slightest attention to the adult relatives doing the talking.

2.) A lot of people grew up watching “The Wizard of Oz” on TV each Thanksgiving. That’s why you hear certain individuals saying “But we have to ver-i-fy it le-gal-ly.”

3.) Three out of five families include someone who knows every line in “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”

4.) The children’s table can be a snakepit of bullying and threats.

5.) If you aren’t going to be serious about saying grace, just skip it.
