Moore sets record in Bucs win
Cassie Moore set a school record with 36 digs, leading Whitworth in a 30-24, 21-30, 30-25, 28-30, 15-12 win over visiting Whitman (7-8, 3-4) in a Northwest Conference volleyball match Wednesday.
Moore broke the five-game record of 34 set by Amy Colyar in 1992. She led a Pirates defensive effort that finished with 106 digs, including 31 by Nikki Bardwell. Whitworth (4-14, 3-4) also had nine team blocks.
Angie Florence tied for match honors with Whitman’s Lydia Hayes, as each landed 22 kills.
With the teams tied at 10 in the fifth game, the Pirates scored the next three points and later won on a kill by Florence.
•Community Colleges of Spokane (10-11, 3-3) swept Big Bend CC (1-16, 0-6) 30-16, 30-14, 30-28 in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges action at Spokane Falls CC.
Brandy Sonderland led the Sasquatch offense with a match-high 11 kills.
Miranda Gouin added 24 assists and Megan Stanley served three aces for the Sasquatch.
Women’s soccer
North Idaho College blanked Eastern Washington’s reserves 2-0 in non-conference play at Coeur d’Alene.
McKenzie Favero opened the scoring for the Cardinals (8-3-1) in the 22nd minute, with the assist going to Lauren Winterholler. Holly Meyer added an unassisted tally at the 38-minute mark.
