Lake City boys win at district
C.J. Helbling and Nic Cotton of Lake City finished 1-2 in the boys race and LC finished with 22 points to capture the team title at the 5A district cross country meet at Hells Gate State Park on Thursday.
Helbling finished in 16 minutes, 56 seconds, 24 seconds ahead of Cotton, who held off Coeur d’Alene’s Mike Armon for second place by 1 second. CdA finished in second place with 34 points.
In the girls race, Anna Stone of CdA won in 18:52, but LC captured the team title with 30 points. Lewiston finished second with 53 points.
The top two teams and top one-third of individuals advance to the state meet, also at Hells Gate State Park.
“In the 4A district meet, also held at Hells Gate State Park, Steve Teran won the boys race in 17:07 to lead Sandpoint to the team title with 32 points. Moscow also had 32 points, but its sixth runner finished one place behind Sandpoint’s. In the girls race, Megan Bartlett finished in 19:51 to lead Sandpoint to the team title with 20 points, ahead of second-place finisher Moscow’s 43 points. The top two teams and top one-third of individuals advance to the state meet, also at Hells Gate State Park.
“In the 1A district meet at Hells Gate State Park, Jacob Redford of Troy won the boys race in 17:48, but Coeur d’Alene Charter won the team title with 42 points. Kendra Loeber of Grangeville won the girls race to lead them to the team title with 22 points. At minimum, the winning teams and top one-third individuals will advance to the state meet, also at Hells Gate State Park.
Volleyball
Ashley Hutchinson had 10 kills and Alex Cey added 16 digs and four aces as visiting Mead (10-0) swept North Central (4-6) 25-6, 25-8, 25-18 to win the Greater Spokane League title outright. Ashley McGee led NC with four kills and four blocks. … Also in the league, Caitlin Barschig had 11 kills, three aces and 10 blocks, and Jordon Hoffnagle had 14 assists as Mt. Spokane (6-3) beat Shadle Park (4-5) 20-25, 26-24, 26-24, 26-24 at Mt. Spokane. Brynn Delong led SP with 14 kills and 10 blocks. … Caranna Rath had 13 kills and Kelsey Allen had 36 assists as host Ferris (4-5) rallied past Central Valley (5-4) 14-25, 26-24, 29-27, 25-16. Ashley Roberts led CV with 12 kills and Allison Giusti had 14 digs and nine aces. … Laura Leach had 17 kills and six blocks, and Lisa Reich added 25 assists as visiting University (2-7) swept East Valley (1-8) 25-16, 25-21, 25-19. Pam Eatock led EV with 12 digs.
“Kayla Newberg had 18 kills, six aces and four blocks to lead Riverside (6-5) past Medical Lake (1-10) 25-16, 25-11, 23-25, 25-16 in Great Northern League play at ML. Joni Nagy added 25 assists for the Rams, and Carly Dorshorst led ML with five kills, nine digs and two blocks. … Also in the league, Emilie Lepp had seven kills and 14 digs, and Jordan Emmil added 14 assists as Colville (7-4) beat Deer Park (5-7) 25-18, 25-22, 25-18 at Colville. Arianna Obert paced DP with six kills and 10 digs. … Jenna Donnerberg had 16 kills and Kelsey Cook had 34 assists as visiting Cheney (11-1) outlasted Clarkston (3-9) 19-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-16. Kelsie McCann led the Bantams with nine kills and an ace.
