Catching up with Gambill
Spokane’s Jan-Michael Gambill has made it to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and reached as high as No. 14 in the world tennis rankings, but hasn’t made much noise lately.
Staff writer Hilary Kraus recently caught up with Gambill, who is building a new life in Hawaii, teaching young players at the Mauna Loa Village & Holua Resort.
At 29, Gambill said he is working toward returning to the ATP tour, with January’s Australian Open prequalifiers serving as his target.
Check out the story in Sunday’s Spokesman-Review sports section.

Zags schedule finally final
A prolonged eastern road trip featuring games against Duke and Georgia, and a quick swing into the Desert Southwest to face Texas in the Hall of Fame Basketball Classic, highlight Gonzaga’s 2006-07 men’s basketball schedule that was officially released on Friday.
The Zags, who open the regular season at home on Nov. 10 against Eastern Washington, will face Georgia in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Classic in Duluth, Ga., on Dec. 16 and then travel to New York City for a Dec. 21 showdown against Duke in Madison Square Garden.
The GU-Texas game will be played on Dec. 2 in the US Airways Center in Phoenix.
The Bulldogs also play non-conference road games against Washington State (Dec. 5), Virginia (Jan. 3) and Stanford (Jan. 31), and will take on Nevada in GU’s annual Battle in Seattle on Dec. 30.

Those picks, and in-depth coverage of the Cougars game with Oregon, are among the many items which can be found on SportsLink.
